We’re looking for an experienced and talented Computer Science graduate developer to join our team. We’re working in partnership with the University of Brighton on an exciting 3 year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) which addresses high priority issues like privacy and security in next-generation technologies.

If you’d like to work at the cutting edge of WordPress, delivering projects for global brands, we’d LOVE to hear from you. We’re pushing what WordPress can do, with technologies such as (but certainly not limited to) Blockchain, React, Progressive Web Apps, AMP, Gutenberg, Elasticsearch, API integrations and standalone apps based on WordPress.

What you'll be doing

  • Planning technical solutions across the WordPress landscape
  • Using the Agile methodology to work collaboratively
  • Building in secure coding principles
  • Promoting the work to Pragmatic clients and the WordPress community
  • Exploring how Pragmatic can be innovative with Blockchain and the Internet of Things
  • Producing high quality, conscientious code
  • Staying up-to-date with technical standards and sharing knowledge with wider team via training, mentoring and presentations
  • Following git, version control and deployment processes or other version control systems
  • Contributing to re-scoping and problem solving during sprints
  • Taking part in and contributing to project ceremonies and company meetings
  • Where possible, attending events on behalf of Pragmatic, such as WordCamps and conferences

Skills required

  • BSc (minimum 2:1) in a Computer Science discipline with a strong grounding in mathematics and software engineering
  • An MSc/PhD with relevance to cybersecurity is desirable
  • Software systems development and testing with experience of programming in a range of languages and technologies (PHP, CSS/SASS and Javascript)
  • Experience with requirements engineering
  • Migration - Database / Content / Systems
  • Familiarity with projects in the WordPress ecosystem: for example WooCommerce, BuddyPress, Multisite
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
  • Good communication and collaboration skills. Strong problem solving skills, naturally inquisitive and someone that enjoys finding solutions
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time
  • Someone that actively seeks out support from wider team to help improve their skills
